Show 17Our 17th show was held on 27 October 2012 in the picturesque village of Franschhoek in the Western Cape Province. The Chats du Cap cat club, a sub-club of the WCF CASA club, shared the venue with us. The show was held in the Dutch Reformed Church Hall in the centre of the town. The weekend was filled with activities, associated with the Franschhoek Open Gardens Festival, as well as the Food and Cultural week with a French theme.
Outside the hall was a Saturday market filled with food-, art- and craft stalls. The area around the hall is famous for it's restaurants, chocolatiers and interesting shops catering for the taste of the many overseas and local tourists frequenting the town. We were privileged to have three All Breeds judges from Gauteng judging at the show. The International experience and professionalism of Daniel Germishuys, Brenda Neukircher and Deon Scheepers were indeed appreciated by the exhibitors and show team alike. They represented the CFSA and WCF. Exhibitors from several towns in the Western Cape entered and it was interesting so see some breeds and colours not often encountered at South African shows. The AICA show was followed by the Chats du Cap, WCF show in the same hall. We managed to have different local judges at the two shows and once again it gave the opportunity for different opinions and different winners at the shows. Thanks to Hills and Cats Best, who sponsored the prizes. |

The SPCA threatened to disrupt the show and insisted in writing that for the first time at a cat show in South Africa, for more than 70 years, a licence according to the "Performing Animals Act" had to be applied for. This was the only negative experience associated with the show. How this contributed to the "protection and care" of the exhibits is still not clear.
